‘Total Integration’ is a project prepared for ‘Green Design for Cities’ competition(designboom.com). It is concerning the subject of public space and its integration with renewable energy systems.
‘Learning and Landscape’ is a project of Primary School located in the suburbia of Dublin city.
The brief for this school has been extended by kindergarten unit and special care unit – for children in difficult family circumstances.

Initial idea + research: amoeba extending its pseudopods (top) , studies on functional organization of the school building (bottom)
-
-
Pedestrian paths leading to the school run along the car route, but at some point they become independent lines reaching the building. The paths’ surface changes gradually from soft net with grass in between to cement/granite cobble stones in the area close to the entrance of the building.
-
Gardens surrounding the building have not been ‘defined’ or ‘constrained’ with any hard material. The only ‘pre-organized’space is the main courtyard, where a net of paths connects (externally) main hall with other spaces. This web of paths forms also a sort of playground, a labyrinth among the trees, bushes and walls of the building.

Three images above: 3D studies of the main spaces within the school-entrance hall and main didactic area (section through the classrooms).
Images below: model of the site(scale 1/500) and a model of the school itself (scale 1/200).

Pictures above show preliminary studies: analyses of the program of the school (top) and my initial concept of a form that is concentrated but at the same time something that reaches into the landscape, looks into it (second, top)…

‘International Velux Awards 2008′

Cultural Centre is my thesis project, therefore the aspect of brief was left for my consideration.
-
idea:
The aim of the project was to create a distinctive form, a landmark for the city of Wrocław.
-
The site is located in the historical part of the city, on the Słodowa Island. Therefore creating a contemporary piece of architecture was a big challenge. For this reason, it was decided that something completely outstanding in terms of colour, material and form will be designed. At the same time, the relationship with specific site character will be strongly emphasized. Consequently, the eastern part of the building leans over the Odra River, accentuating the importance of the water. Also, the form of the building changes smoothly from geometrical to organic shapes, repeating rhythms of nearby trees.
-
The building itself is 12,000m2 (excluding underground part), and consists of exhibition areas (in both eastern and western wing), restaurant, bar, bookshop and a small library (in western part), four lecture theatres (hanging above the water) and a viewing terrace located in eastern part.
Two storeys of basement are reserved for car park and storage spaces.
-

-
brief:
-
A new extension for Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, located in Traugutta Street. The height of the building cannot be less than 19 m, but at the same time cannot exceed 21m (due to the specific character of the buildings within this area). The building should consist of 5 to 6 storeys + basement. Total area of the building should not be less than 8,000m2.
-
idea:
-
My first thought was a pile of books, but over the development period a books-like form has gradually evolved into a more abstract shape.
